I'm Always On Duty!

Inspector Gadget, Penny, and Brain

Oh Gadget, you lovable klutz.

I vividly remember as a kid, singing the "do do do do do, Inspector Gadget!" along with the tv while my mom brought the warmth of my tomato soup lunch into the room. I would laugh along as Gadget naively bumbled his way hilariously through the episode as Penny and Brain faithfully braved the dangers and virtually solved the case behind his back... with just enough time for Gadget to pop up and hand over the disheartened MAD Agents to the Police Chief of course.

"Oh, Penny! What are you doing here?"

None if this is to say Gadget was useless by any means. Quite to the contrary, the exploits of the ever-optimistic Inspector were a constant distraction and frustration to Dr. Claw, with Gadget often unknowingly uncovering vital clues, as well as taking key MAD Agents out of the picture. If not for his work, I doubt many of the cases would be solved at all.

And I'd regret not thanking the late Don Adams for lending his wonderful voice and charm to the ol' Inspector, as well as providing a great deal of inspiration for the show I'm sure. :)

A Link to the Past...

Update -

Alright you sticklers, hopefully this will make you happy. Apparently Link is 'left-handed'. Enjoy.

I don't have a history of really being the biggest video gaming guy, but whenever I've gone to Nintendo for a fun time, Link has always been there. From 8-bit on up, I have many fond memories playing or watching Zelda games with friends.

Strange as it sounds, In a way I almost feel like I've grown up along with Link, watching him transition from console to console, and all his visual styles in between. It's been cool seeing him explore fantastic worlds and overcome challenges along the way.

Which has been your favorite Zelda game through the years?

"So Edward, did you have a productive day?"

Edward Scissorhands

I had a request from 'Jean' for a character I hadn't thought of doing before - I thought it was a cool idea, so now here he is, Edward Scissorhands.

The movie was my first real introduction to Johnny Depp, and I have to say I find him definitely one of the most talented actors on film today.

And despite the 'look' of the movie, I don't really consider it very 'goth', but moreso a quite sympathetic teen angst/coming-of-age story. It has that interesting Tim Burton dark quirky-ness to it, and with that movie you can really tell 'this is where Tim Burton is really hitting his stride'.

Contest Frustration...

Recently I was directed to a cool new contest at http://www.thesimpsons.com/character/ where you get to come up with a new Simpsons character! Apparently the winner will have their creation appear in an upcoming episode, as well as a trip to LA to meet with a Simpsons artist and other stuff! Sounds cool, right?

I loved the idea, but wouldn't you know it - yep, looks like only U.S. Residents are eligible. D'oh! ...The plight of the Canadian I guess.

So then I figured 'heck, it might be a fun exercise, why not just do it anyway and post it on your blog?' So I went for it. ...and maybe just to throw it back at them, I gave my character an admittedly Canadian flair...

Name: HockeyFight Phil (or Slewfoot Phil, still deciding which I like best)
Known Aliases: Phil McGrattzky
Age: 39
Occupation, If Any: Former Canadian hockey player/part time senior care worker
Sex: Male
Hair Color: Red
Body Type: Canadian Hulk
Blood Type: Maple
Distinguishing Features: Missing teeth, persistent black eye, unwashed hockey uniform
Last Seen: At the zoo, yelling obscenities at the zebras...
Last Heard: 'Firmly' informing Homer Simpson, "You got 13 items, eh?" at the express checkout.
Known Catchphrases: "HOCKEY FIGHT!"
Other info: Beware, Phil may occasionally be slightly 'off' with regards to mental state, likely due to a few too many collisions throughout his career. He may exhibit quite the temper.

Anyway, thanks for indulging me folks! I don't know if my idea is the best, but I appreciate being able to share it with you. You still have a day or 2 left, so I hope you U.S. Residents enter the contest with all your creative ideas and make me proud! later!

They'll never take our FREEDOM!

William Wallace

I admit, it's been a long while since I've seen Braveheart, but the suggestion came up to draw him, it was interesting to me. My recollection of the film is probably a bit hazy, but it seems like a timely message at any rate.

LOST week 2; Day 7

Sayid Jarrah

Sayid is one guy I would not like to meet in a dark alley. Or a well-lit alley for that matter. This man is the MacGyver of Pain.

The actor Naveen Andrews does a great job of making him an imposing force, albeit the strong-silent type. I can't wait to see what revelations await regarding Sayid in the upcoming season.

...And that's all for Lost Week 2! Thanks for sticking with me folks!
I'll catch you next time!

LOST week 2; Day 6

Daniel Faraday

Faraday is another one of those Lost characters that just keeps you enthralled. He's not a big fighter or skilled killer, but the things he says just keep you guessing. Jeremy Davies does an amazing job with the role.

I imagine he'd be able to hold a long, spirited debate with Doc Brown (from Back to the Future). I'd pay to see that.

LOST week 2; Day 5

Desmond Hume

Desmond is my constant. Brotha.

Every time Desmond on the screen, my eyes are glued. He's mysterious but very likeable, and his love for Penny is inspiring. I really hope the character finds lasting happiness.

Henry Ian Cusick does a fantastic job with the role, but it really threw me for a loop when I saw him on the show initially. I had previously only seen Cusick as Jesus in the really powerful "
The Visual Bible: The Gospel of John", but there he was again, long hair, beard and all. It took a while to get used to :)

LOST week 2; Day 4

Claire Littleton

So is Claire dead? Or Is she really still alive? Will we see more of her son Aaron?

Will we hear Claire say the name "Cha-lee" one more time?

LOST week 2; Day 3

Sun-Hwa Kwon

Sun is another character that I hope continues to play a big part in the show. She appears delicate on the surface, but she really is quite cunning with a mean streak when you get on her bad side. I think the actress Yunjin Kim does a great job in the role.

September 29, 2009

LOST week 2; Day 2

Jin-Soo Kwon

Jin is really a likeable guy to me. I love the way he smiles. He seems very protective of Sun, which is admirable, I just hope it doesn't get him into too much trouble. His english is really coming along nicely too.

I wouldn't mind Jin playing an even bigger role in this upcoming season, I think there's a lot left that the character can offer. I think he'd kick butt if you really let him loose.

LOST week 2; Day 1

Juliet Burke
Hey all, Springfield Punx is back with Lost Week 2!

First up is Dr. Juliet Burke. I guess her status on the show is as 'up in the air' as everything else considering that last season finale. There's also the fact that the actress Elizabeth Mitchell looks to be starring in ABC's "V" as well, so I'm not sure how much more we'll see of her.

At any rate, Juliet really seems to have brought out the 'softer' side of Sawyer, quite the feat if you ask me. Elizabeth Mitchell did a great job injecting (doctor pun) life and intelligence into Juliet, and there's still more about her past and connections to Ben Linus that I'd like to know.

And as a bonus, I gave in and threw together the requested 'shirtless' Sawyer in all his yellow glory, to go with Juliet. And before anyone starts - No, don't bother asking for shirtless versions of the ladies, this ain't that kind of party :)
If you'd like, you can see the first Lost Week Punx here.

Stay tuned for Day 2 tomorrow!

Ghostbusters Poster

Hey guys, I came across these really well done posters featuring the SP versions of Ghostbusters! I adore the one with the Simpson family in it :)

Anyway, the creator of these goes by the name 'gh0stbuster' and you can check out their stuff at the link

To Batman, and BEYOND!

Batman Beyond, Old Bruce Wayne, Ace the Bat-Hound

Hey all, I'm still here! I know it's been a fair break since last post but, it's just summer, you know?

Anyway, I wanted to share some characters from Batman Beyond. I thought it was a cool and stylish cartoon. While I'm not sure if I want it to be THE 'canon future' for Batman or not, I really did enjoy it's take on the whole mythos.

I think Terry's Batman suit is cool looking and rather brilliant in it's simplicity.

The old version of Bruce Wayne has got to be my favorite thing of the show, he was just so... Bruce Wayne-y. Ace rocks too :)

Springfield Punx Graffiti!

Hey all, just wanted to share with you some awesome Punx-inspired Graffiti art by a clever and talented artist named Gusto. He did this beautifully huge mural featuring Punx-styled Marvel characters.

It really is an impressive piece. I hope you go check out his post about it here and see it in all it's full-sized glory.

To see the Marvel Punx previously featured here on the blog, you can click on some of the labels below.

Thanks Gusto, it's amazing!

King of Pop

Michael Jackson
I was a bit hesitant to cover Michael Jackson right now. I've seen all the unrelenting coverage on the entertainment gossip shows and I've passed by the generously stocked CD displays that have been hastily set up in the stores. Are they just cashing in, or maybe I guess the're just feeding a hunger that's out there right now in the wake of his passing? I don't know but at any rate I didn't want to go out and be explotive, not deliberately at least.

In light of all that, and also the controversy in his life (I don't know exactly what he did or didn't do, but that's something others will continue to look at I suppose) but I still did want to pay tribute to my memories of the past and share that with others.

This is the Michael Jackson I 'met' as a kid. A happy, glowing young man looking at me from the 'Thriller' cover. The needle tracing the circles of the record, pulling out the enchanting music. Turning on the tv and seeing this guy move like I'd never seen anyone move before. And a really cool red jacket.

I've had more good memories of MJ and I've also witnessed him go through his 'changes' (so to speak) but that was my first and biggest experience of him and he defines so much of what the 80's was to me. Remember those Pepsi commercials? :)

I also remember the 'Michael Jackson' episode of the Simpsons long ago. That was cool. I've heard a few different things about it not being the real MJ doing the voice and others that say it really was. If you know for sure, don't worry about telling me, I actually think I'd rather not know.

Blog note - If you've been trying to email me, you may need to be patient if you're looking for a response. I've been getting a fair amount of messages, (a few of them I have discovered end up in my spam folder for some reason) so if you really need to hear back, just email again. Thanks.

Ghostbusters Week: Day 7

Silmer, Janine Melnitz, Stay Puft Marshmallow Man

Well, for day 7 of Ghostbusters Week, we're gonna round it out with a few Ghostbusters favorites.

Slimer is an essential, prominent in the movies as well as the cartoon and pretty much everything else that's had the Ghostbusters name on it. Crazy little guy.

Janine, well, I don't know what happened to her between Ghostbusters 1 and 2, but she went from frumpy and bookish to flashy fashion seeker for some reason. People change I guess.

And of course the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. (You may want to click on him for the full effect) I was delighted as a kid to see the fluffy massive mascot lumbering through New York. Kudos to the filmakers for being so original!

Well, thanks for checking out Ghostbusters Week y'all!
Stay tuned.

Ghostbusters Week: Day 6

Louis Tully

Man, when I saw Ghostbusters I thought Rick Moranis was hilarious. It was the first thing I ever saw him in. The Ghostbusters sequel wasn't as good as the first, but I even enjoyed Moranis in that, when he put on a proton pack himself and had to ride the Slimer-driven bus to go 'rescue' the Ghostbusters.

June 26, 2009

Ghostbusters Week: Day 5

Dana Barrett

Sigourney Weaver creeped me out in this move, and that's all I have to say :)

So I heard about MJ. I don't want to start a big MJ talkback, but I'd better address the question 'will I do a Punx version of him?' Maybe. I'd need to find some time in the next little while, this all happened pretty suddenly. I'm gonna finish out Ghostbusters week anyway, and then we'll see.

June 25, 2009

Ghostbusters Week: Day 4

Ray Stantz

Ray was funny, he seemed to be a little too fascinated with his job. He seemed to soak up every new discovery and every new horror like a little boy eagerly dissecting a frog. His affection for the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man was particularly endearing.

June 24, 2009

Ghostbusters Week: Day 3

Egon Spengler

When I was little Egon was my favorite Ghostbuster, largely due to the cartoon show. I was friends with a couple of twin brothers and I would go home with them after school and watch the show on the little 6 inch black and white tv screen in their room. I had a great time.

Anyway, I liked Egon best because he was so smart and usually had a good handle on the situation. He came off as a bit more of a 'nerd' in the movie to me though.

June 23, 2009

Ghostbusters Week: Day 2

Winston Zeddemore

I always liked Winston. Yeah, he wasn't one of the founding Ghostbusters, but I liked how he was rather down to earth. Peter, Egon and Ray were each a bit...'eccentric' in their own ways, perhaps a either a bit too 'involved' in the job, or a bit too 'distracted'. Winston didn't seem sure what to make of the whole thing, but wanted to get the job done. I can appreciate that :)

June 22, 2009

Ghostbusters Week: Day 1

Peter Venkman

How can you not like Bill Murray? I understand the new Ghostbusters video game just came out too. With that and all the talk of a third movie, it seems Ghostbusters could be back in a big way.

I remember as a young kid, me and my friend would grab flashlights, put on our little backpacks from school, and would slowly creep from closet to closet in the darkened house looking to capture some ghosts. If I remember correctly, we even had a little rectangular cardboard box on a string we would throw out on the floor to trap the ghosts in. I guess you can have fun without having to buying a bunch of toys after all.

Bustin' makes me feel good.
Catch you tomorrow!

Arrested Development Wallpaper

Hey guys and gals, a great vistor named Scott sent me a cool Arrested Development Punx Movie wallpaper he put together. Thanks Scott, great job!

And I guess we'll just have to wait and see if the rumored movie really does come about.

P.S. You can see all the Arrested Development Punx posts here.

Deadpool Time!

Deadpool

Hey all, just wanted to take a quick dip (pardon the 'pool' pun) into the Marvel universe again to put out one of the often requested characters, Deadpool. In case you don't know, he's a wisecracking mercenary product of the Weapon X program. I understand he's in the new Wolverine movie too. I haven't seen it myself, so it'll be interesting to see how the movie portrays him.

May 31, 2009

LOST week; Day 7

Jack Shephard

Do you think it means anything that Jack is sort of the leader of the survivors and his last name is 'Shephard' (like shepherd)?

Anyway, I hope he can work out his issues with his apparently-dead-but-appearing-on-the-Island dad. And figure out that Kate thing one way or the other too, but hey, after this last season finale, who knows what's gonna happen?!

...and that's day 7 of Lost week. Thank you guys so much for visiting! I know there are some who want Lost week to keep going, but this blog is a side project I do for fun so if I don't take breaks from it now and then it doesn't become fun anymore. I do want to do more Lost guys (I'm a big Desmond fan... Faraday too) so you should probably expect to see some more in the future.

Thanks again, catch you later!

LOST week; Day 6

James "Sawyer" Ford

Heheh, Sawyer is awesome. I just love the nicknames he gives people...Tarzan...Blondie...Pippi Longstockings...Kenny Rogers...Freckles...

Check out the list if you want, it's pretty funny :)

Over the course of the show, we've seen the 'softer side' of the gruff con-man come out. His time as 'LaFleur' has been very enjoyable to watch.

Update - Okay, to those of you who like your Sawyer a bit happier...
