DC Comics Week: Day 7

Batman (new costume)

Yep, Batman has a new suit. If you didn't know what's going on in the comics currently; the former Robin (Dick Grayson) has taken up the Batman cowl as Bruce Wayne has been away for a while, presumed dead but actually hopping around in time. Yeah, it's complicated. Anyway, Bruce is on his way back to present day Gotham and his new suit has been revealed.

It's pretty cool, though I also wanted to play around with it a little (bring back the briefs, different logo etc), so below is the result.

At any rate, thanks for catching DC week!

I figured it was time for some Green Lantern action, and Sinestro fit the bill.

Also quickly - SP reader Philip wanted to share his rendition of Bat-villain Killer Croc. Here he is;

DC Comics Week: Day 1

Wonder Woman (Golden Age and New Costume)

A blog reader named Noel made the suggestion to take on some more Wonder Woman versions; her Golden Age look and her controversial 'new look' that was been making headlines all over the place.

As far as the new costume goes, I'm probably a little less annoyed with it now that I've had some time to get used to it. I do understand and appreciate the effort to do something 'fresh' with Wondy, but I still don't know about where they're going with this. I think the motivation in their mind was partly a desire to envision what a movie Wonder Woman could be like. I suppose we'll see if it ultimately becomes embraced or not, but hey, people are talking about Wonder Woman again, so maybe that's the point...

Something I did want to do though, is play around with the look and try to tweak the costume to look a little more 'Wonder Woman'... Below is the result of some quick 'tweaking'. I think they would be well advised to pull more iconic influences back into their design - maybe there can be a happy medium. What do you think?

And to end off for today, Noel (who I mentioned earlier) has a creation called 'Dawgs' that are pretty cute, and has even paired them with some Springfield Punx. Here's a look:

UPDATE - It was pointed out that the new Daleks had the weapons on the wrong side, and they did. I flipped the original images I had, but forgot about the weapons. Yeah, it's kind of a minor thing, but I know it would start to bug me if I didn't fix it :) At any rate, here it is updated -

Marvel Mirage

A young artist named Gerardo recently sent me a neat drawing of his (The American Turtle) based on a story that he and a friend are working on.

They call it Marvel Mirage; a mash-up of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Marvel characters.

He gave me descriptions of the other characters (Shellowine, The Iron Turtle, and Shellpool) and asked me if I would do up some SP style images for them. I don't always do this, but I remembered the fun I had at 14 with this kind of thing, so I was more than happy to play around with it myself and throw something together.

Anyway, I thought they had a really fun idea going and I wanted to just share it with you, here they are below (Click image to enlarge)

Oh, and if you ever get the chance to help out and encourage a young artist - or any young person for that matter - please do, you won't regret it.

Thanks!
